Anything Knitted and Crocheted

Welcome to my blog. I hope to blog about my knitting and crocheting as well as everyday life. The patterns that I post are original and as such there is copyright on them. When they are based on another pattern there is a link to the pattern.

My husband and I adopted a beautiful dog named Leo. He is a dachshund and absolutely adorable! we adopted him on June 23, 2010 and he has become the love of our lives.

I love to share patterns that I find along the way or to talk about some of the neatest designers that are out there today, so I love to post links to the designs or the designers.

So grab a cup a and sit and enjoy the blog.

Came across this on FB....

A man and his dog were walking along a road. The man was enjoying the
scenery, when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead.

He remembered dying, and that the dog walking beside him had been dead for years.

He wondered where the road was leading them. After a while, they came to a high, white stone wall along one side of the road. It looked like fine marble. At the top of a long hill, it was broken by a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight.

When he was standing before it, he saw a magnificent gate in the arch that looked like mother-of-pearl, and the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold. He and the dog walked toward the gate, and as he got closer, he saw a man at a desk to one side.

When he was close enough, he called out, 'Excuse me, where are we?' 'This is Heaven, sir,' the man answered. 'Wow! Would you happen to have some water?' the man asked. 'Of course, sir. Come right in, and I'll have some ice water brought right up.' The man gestured, and the gate began to open.

'Can my friend,' gesturing toward his dog, 'come in, too?' the traveler asked. 'I'm sorry, sir, but we don't accept pets.' The man thought a moment and then turned back toward the road and continued the way he had been going with his dog.

After another long walk, and at the top of another long hill, he came to a dirt road leading through a farm gate that looked as if it had never been closed. There was no fence. As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside, leaning against a tree and reading a book

'Excuse me!' he called to the man. 'Do you have any water?' 'Yeah, sure, there's a pump over there, come on in.' 'How about my friend here?' the traveler gestured to the dog. 'There should be a bowl by the pump,' said the man.

They went through the gate, and sure enough, there was an old-fashioned hand pump with a bowl beside it. The traveler filled the water bowl and took a long drink himself, then he gave some to the dog.

When they were full, he and the dog walked back toward the man who was standing by the tree. 'What do you call this place?' the traveler asked. 'This is Heaven,' he answered. 'Well, that's confusing,' the traveler said.

'The man down the road said that was Heaven, too.'

'Oh, you mean the place with the gold street and pearly gates? Nope.

That's Hell.' 'Doesn't it make you mad for them to use your name like that?' 'No, we're just happy that they screen out the folks who would leave their best friends behind.'

this brought a smile to my face :)

M is for Monkey

D is For Dog
Yeah get to test knit another pattern for Emily...so excited! I first discovered her uniquedesigns in the summer when Emily was the guest host of the yearly Mystery Toy KAL on the Knitted Toys group on Ravelry. It later turned out to be the M is for Monkey pattern.

So I contacted Emily and got to test knit her next design, D is for Dog. He turned out so cute! Mine turned out quite cute although my step-daughter says he looks more like a mouse...lol.

Just a quick update on Leo....

Leo (August 7, 2011)
Yeah! Leo seems to be doing well with crating *knocks on wood* :) On the days where I am not working or I am working a late shift I just put him in his kennel (crate) and he seems to be fine with it now. I do leave the TV on for company and he gets a busy bone (which he gets only when in the kennel) to chew on. So glad that he realizes that we do come home when he is in the kennel.

Leo still goes to Dogs Paw Dog Daycare when I am doing the opening shift. the reason being is that more than 5 hrs in a kennel without a break is not fair to him. to be at work by 10 am, I have to leave by 8:45 am so that I have time to vacuum and have a coffee. I hate being rushed in the morning...lol.

So glad that Leo is adjusting to the new routine finally. He is a very sweet dog and we only want the best for my bud. He is the greatest and we have learned so much from him. Still not sure who has benefited more, Leo or hubby and I...maybe it is all of this.

Have a good one!

Hoping to adopt a companion dog for Leo

So Leo is not adjusting well to the fact that I am working full-time, he has separation anxiety. We have been working on who is boss in the house. I spoke to Nicole (the lady who started PAWS for Life, where we got Leo) and she says we need to crate him when we are gone. I agree...Leo does not, neither does hubby for that matter.

Anywhoo a friend suggested we get Leo a companion to help him as it would give him someone to play with and company. Somedays I want to strangle hubby as he fights with me about how to crate Leo. I turn on the tv and sound. When hubby is not home the crating goes smoothly, when he is home not so much...*sigh*.

So on Sunday we went to an adoption event that PAWS was having. We had been looking at a dog named Little Guy and I wanted hubby to meet Suzy, who I had met at a previous adoption event. She is a cheweenie, although PAWS doesn't think so.

Suzy is not fond of men and basically she was growling at hubby the whole time. I have been told that once she gets used to you she is fine, its the initial meeting. Then we met Digger...he is a min-pin/dachshund cross. He is loving and affectionate.

DH and I fell head over heels for him.

We are really hoping that we will get picked to adopt this little guy. So please send out good vibes, prayers and thoughts so we can adopt him.

Have you ever thought about adopting a dog, rather than buying them?

Thankfully there are many rescue groups Edmonton. Some are breed specific such as Alberta Dachshund Rescue, Border Collie Friends Rescue, Herding Dog Rescue (for any herding breed), or for the mixed breeds. There is PAWS for Life, Alberta Small Dog Adoption Network, Second Chance Animal Rescue Society, and the Animal Rescue Foundation.

My hubby and I got our dog, Leo, last year through PAWS for Life. He is doing well and we are thinking of adding to our family of furry friends. As you know, we also have 4 cats in addition to the dog.

Patches and Smokey are my cats and Smokey and Tyger are the hubby's. Patches is 6 and Snowball is 7. Smokey and Tyger are in their early teens. Leo is 10 this year. So as I said we are hoping to add to this little family. Earlier this year, in May I met Suzy and Little Guy at a PAWS adoption event. We have since seen Little guy at the Eastwood Off Leash Park (in the ice rink area). However we fell in love with Digger. He appears to a min-pin/dachshund cross. He is adorable! We have applied to adopt Digger and hopefully will hear soon. Digger actually cried when we left! Here's hoping :)

So who decorates for Halloween?

I am not a huge fan of Halloween, hearkening back to traumatic events as a young mom. When I lived in Abbotsford, BC I had a preschooler (5 at the time) a toddler (3 at the time) and was pregnant with my third. I was a high risk pregnancy but needed to get the kids out of the house for a while. Members of my parenting group suggested a yearly event that was "supposed" to be "appropriate" for all ages. It wasn't! My kids had nightmares for many months after that. The "haunted" house was so scary that my youngest was literally climbing me and my unborn baby! The scariest thing was they didn't have an escape route for those that were unable to deal with it. It was very traumatic for both kids and me! Think Jason or Freddy or Mike you will understand what I am talking about...never again!

Now I just like to knit or crochet some cute toys to decorate with. So here are some cute ideas!
