Anything Knitted and Crocheted

Welcome to my blog. I hope to blog about my knitting and crocheting as well as everyday life. The patterns that I post are original and as such there is copyright on them. When they are based on another pattern there is a link to the pattern.

My husband and I adopted a beautiful dog named Leo. He is a dachshund and absolutely adorable! we adopted him on June 23, 2010 and he has become the love of our lives.

I love to share patterns that I find along the way or to talk about some of the neatest designers that are out there today, so I love to post links to the designs or the designers.

So grab a cup a and sit and enjoy the blog.

War On Women in Canada.

Tory backbencher wins bid for abortion-related debate in House of Commons

Tory MP Stephen Woodworth (photo courtesy: The National Post)
From the National Post: March 13, 2012
If parliamentarians agree to Woodworth’s request, a special committee would review Section 223 of the Criminal Code, which says a child becomes “a human being . . . when it has completely proceeded, in a living state, from the body of its mother.”

That section of the Criminal Code says a homicide on a child happens when someone “causes injury to a child before or during its birth as a result of which the child dies after becoming a human being.”
Woodworth said his proposal will be wrapped up in the emotions that surround the abortion debate, but he doesn’t intend to back down even though his own party has said the government has no interest in reopening the abortion debate.
i would like to start the same movement her in Canada as the US, lets send a message to Harper that we won't back down!

Let's send out a uteri to both Woodworth and Harper.  would love them to be uteri with fetuses in them.with amessage along the lines of "Here is your own uterus and fetus keep your hands off of mine,.

The anticraft site has the Snatchel and Fetus Coin Purse, both are knit.

Some interesting articles blogs and video on "The War on Women"

One very powerful video here! Check it out: Lauren Zuniga, To the Oklahoma Lawmakers: a poem

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/s9QI4v9Jehs?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Lauren Zuniga performs a poem for the Oklahoma legislators that continually propose anti-choice legislation. The bill referred to here would require women to receive an ultrasound and listen to the baby's heartbeat before an abortion. It is still being challenged in court. Since 2010, various other bills including, "No Fetus in Food" and "Personhood" have been introduced as a way to circumvent Roe V. Wade and shame women. View more poems at http://laurenzuniga.com.

From a Facebook Post:
Here's why this little uterus is en route to Senator Scott Brown! Spreading the word about the Snatchel Project: http://blogalacart.com/2012/03/government-free-vjj/

Senators Patty Murray, Al Franken and Kristin Gillibrand started a Personhood for Women petition.  It's not a joke. As far as I can tell, it's an anti-"personhood for zygotes" (fertilized eggs) petition and important since we are apparently, as a country, electing people who are willi...
Thank You, Affordable Care Act!www.huffingtonpost.com
Just as we will not be silenced when we are verbally attacked for speaking out, we will not go back to a society without the kind of health care for women that the Affordable Care Act.
 Thought  this was cool...
some are the States are requiring that a women get a Transvaginal Ultrasound done. In the first trimester this is apparently the ONLY way they can see the fetus. Surprised me as we seem to have ultrasounds that can tell quite accurately how far along in a pregnancy a woman is in and it is not a Transvaginal ultrasound.

This is a TransVaginal Probe...it is 10" long and cold, and hard...it is not only inserted but then pushed in an upward position, not gently either!. Legistlatures want this done to women who have been brutally raped....children that are the victims of incest...and any women who may be suffering a medical condition making carrying a child to full term dangerous.

This is important information on the Equal Rights Amendment, which is not law yet! this is why the current GOP can wage a "War on Women" as this was not passed! Holy Crap!

wow, this pro choice Republican deserves an extra special uteri,http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2012/03/23/gop-congressman-to-women-give-your-money-to-democrats/

From Wikipedia: Equal Rights Amendment (ERA)
The Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) was a proposed amendment to the United States Constitution. The ERA was originally written by Alice Paul and, in 1923, it was introduced in the Congress for the first time. In 1972, it passed both houses of Congress and went to the state legislatures for ratification. The ERA failed to receive the requisite number of ratifications before the final deadline mandated by Congress of June 30, 1982 expired and so it was not adopted.

So I came across this article on a Twitter feed for #knitting...

Keep Your Boehner Out of My Uterus

A pleasant visual showing how many American women feel about the Republican speaker of the House as he fights to defund Planned Parenthoodposted
I thought it was an interesting article to be featured on a knitting twitter feed until it mentioned sending knit or crochet uteri to Congress.

Congressmen to get knit and crocheted vaginas

Twitter messages sent by @Druchunas announced the new group's effort on two million-member knit and crochet network site, Ravelry: "Rav group #govtfreevjj is live. Pls join & RT. Send a uterus to male gov't reps: 'Hands off my v-jj. Here's your own.' " Influential forces across the knitting community showed their support as fast as the iPhone tweets could beep. Donna Druchunas is a knitwear designer, author, and teacher. Hope, Love and Optomism

As Insit here and watch the casket that is carrying Jack Layton's body, I am crying. Grieving the loss of an amazing man. The crowds are vast and respectful. So cool to see the orange colors. I feel for Olivia Chow and for Jack's children and grandchild. This is just amazing.

Joy McPhail (former Deputy Premier, BC) is one of the honorary pall bearer. I knew Joy from when I lived in BC. Prime Minister Harper had some really nice things to say. Reverend Hawks (Hox) had the chance to speak with Jack before he passed away.
Jack Layron and Myself-July 2008
My personal connection to Jack was back in 2008. I had convinced my hubby to come and listen to the announcement of Ray Martin candicacy.  Hubby has always been a die hard Liberal supporter. I spoke with Jack and be took the time to speak with my husband. He was so impressed with Jack that he got behind the NDP and "Team Layton" right then and there.

I am going to miss you Jack! We will carry on!
